Malta International Theatre Festival

No, it isn't a typing error, the Malta Theatre Festival really is held in Poznan, Poland's fifth largest city with a population larger that the whole of the Mediterranean island from which it takes its name. Poznan is also a city which hopes to become the European Capital of Culture in 2016.

The event, established in 1991, aims to showcase drama in its broadest sense. Only a fraction of performances happen inside a theatre, and many take place outdoors. No courtyard, street, square, public monument or indeed any public space is safe, as up to 150 shows, drawing around 150,000 spectators throughout the week.
